For a Tier 1 Automotive Supplier, FiXar developed and manufactured a dedicated cutting tool for creating pump openings in different brands of plastic fuel tanks. The solution was engineered to provide a lightweight, robust, and operator-friendly design that guarantees accurate and repeatable cutting without damaging or deforming the plastic tank.
The manual tool is positioned directly onto the tank, after which the operator drives the spring-loaded spindle using a standard drilling machine. Once the cutting operation is complete, the spindle automatically returns to its starting position, allowing the finished cut-out to be removed quickly and efficiently. This simple yet effective concept minimizes operator effort while ensuring consistent production quality.
Manufactured with an aluminum housing, an IGUS bearing system, and designed to easily exchange cutting knives, the tooling combines durability, low weight, and precision. The result is a reliable production tool that supports efficient manufacturing while protecting the integrity of the finished fuel tank.
