Automatic Auto-Injector Feeding System

FiXar developed a tray-based feeding system that automates the transfer of auto-injectors onto an existing conveyor. Designed to accommodate two trays and handle two different auto-injector types, the solution reduces repetitive manual loading and frees up operator time for other production tasks.

Automatic Auto-Injector Feeding System

From manual loading to automatic tray feeding

Feeding a production machine should not require an operator’s constant attention. In this medical packaging application, auto-injectors were placed individually onto a conveyor by hand. This repetitive task kept the operator occupied with maintaining the machine’s supply.

FiXar developed a custom feeding system that allows the operator to load two complete trays of auto-injectors. A rotating mechanism positions each tray in turn for automatic unloading, transferring the products onto the existing conveyor.

By moving from individual product loading to tray-based feeding, the operator can spend more time on other production tasks while the system handles the unloading process.

Integration into existing production equipment

The solution was designed to integrate with an existing machine and conveyor. This makes it possible to automate the feeding step while retaining the production equipment already in place.

The system also accommodates two different types of auto-injectors, providing flexibility for the customer’s product range.

Custom tooling for diversified markets

This project demonstrates how FiXar’s expertise extends beyond automotive and aerospace into medical and packaging applications.

Our approach starts with the customer’s product, equipment and workflow. From there, we develop custom tooling that addresses a specific production challenge—in this case, reducing repetitive handling and improving the way products are supplied to an existing machine.

FRequently asked questions

A tray-based feeding system can replace the task of placing auto-injectors individually onto a conveyor. For this application, FiXar developed a system that accepts two full trays and automatically unloads them in sequence. The auto-injectors are transferred onto the existing conveyor, reducing the operator’s involvement in product feeding.

Yes. This FiXar system was designed to integrate with an existing machine and conveyor. For a new application, integration requirements depend on factors such as the product, available space, conveyor layout and machine interface. These requirements help determine how a custom feeding solution can fit into the existing process.

Yes. The system developed for this project accommodates two different auto-injector types. Compatibility with multiple products needs to be considered during the design phase, taking into account their dimensions, geometry and handling requirements. This allows the solution to be developed around the intended product range.

Automated feeding of auto-injectors reduces the need for an operator to load products one at a time. In this application, the operator loads two complete trays, which the system then unloads automatically. This reduces the attention required for feeding and gives the operator more time for other production tasks. The time available between loading operations depends on tray capacity and production speed.

A custom feeding system is worth considering when repetitive manual loading occupies substantial operator time, when products have specific handling requirements, or when automation must fit existing equipment. FiXar’s auto-injector project combines these needs in a tray-based solution designed for two product types and integration with an existing conveyor.
